Beforehand, they were a trio of pretty similar characters, each with one defining personality trait. The characters start to feel way more 3 dimensional in this film. Hell, even the way they all wore their uniforms was a little bit different. This movie really allowed the costume designers to show the characters out of their normal school uniforms and give each one their own personal sense of fashion. The sounds, the tone, the looks of the wands (they all got redesigned looks after the first two), and even the characters' sense of style and personalities.
